Every Michigander who works hard and plays by the rules should have a fair opportunity to succeed. In Michigan, Dan knows we make things and grow things. That’s why Dan has championed a ‘Make it in America’ jobs plan to revitalize our manufacturing base and ensure workers have the skills training necessary for in-demand jobs. He was proud to support the SECURE Act, bipartisan legislation signed into law by President Trump to help connect workers with apprenticeship opportunities for high-skill, high-wage jobs. And Dan has supported fair and reciprocal trade policies in Congress that give our farmers and growers access to markets to sell their products while protecting American workers.
Michiganders are working harder than ever, including more than one job–but they have not seen more money in their paychecks. That’s why Dan has supported bipartisan legislation to boost the wages of workers. In Congress, he voted to raise the wages of workers by boosting the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Dan has also supported bills to ensure women and men get paid the same if they are doing the same work.
If you work hard and play by the rules, Dan believes you should be able to retire with dignity. He has authored legislation, signed into law by President Trump, to expand access to retirement savings accounts for workers. In Congress, Dan has led the fight to pass the Butch Lewis Act so we can protect the hard-earned pensions and retirement benefits Michigan workers have earned. And Dan has introduced legislation to ensure that Social Security, a vital insurance program for millions of Michiganders, remains solvent for the rest of the century.
Dan believes we have to level the playing field for Michigan workers. That’s why he’s opposed bad trade agreements, like the North American Free Trade Agreement, that have been unfair to American workers and resulted in tens of thousands of good-paying manufacturing jobs leaving our state. Dan has supported cracking down on countries that are cheating our workers, including China and Mexico.
