Statement from Dan Kildee in Reaction to the State of the Union Address

January 25, 2012

The following is a statement from Dan Kildee in response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address:

I applaud President Obama and his continued laser-like focus on rebuilding our economy and putting Michiganders back to work. Indeed, the President has stood with Michigan workers time and time again when it wasn’t politically convenient or popular. When the auto industry was on the verge of collapse, he stepped in and saved millions of manufacturing jobs. Today, because of the President’s bold efforts, the Big Three are roaring back to life, GM is number one again, and along with Chrysler and Ford, they are creating thousands of new jobs across the 5th Congressional district and our state.

Tonight, President Obama also outlined a blueprint for building an economy that reflects our values – investing in American manufacturing, American energy, and investing in American workers. Although we have seen private sector job growth for twenty-two straight months, there is still work that needs to be done to create jobs and continue our economic growth. I sincerely hope that Republicans in Congress join in the President’s efforts to create jobs instead of continuing to obstruct and stand in the way of progress.
